HISTORY

Ever since Hardware Hawaii was founded in Kailua by Dana and Mary Lundquist in 1954, we’ve been dedicated to bringing the people of Hawaii everything they need for home improvement with the
highest level of Customer First! service.

It is this Customer First! philosophy that has gained Hardware Hawaii a reputation for legendary customer service, and we have continued to thrive against local and mainland competition.

In the early 70’s Dana and Mary’s son, David Lundquist, joined the business and in 1982 became its owner and president. His brother, Barry, later joined the company in 1990. Together, the Lundquist family helped grow Hardware Hawaii from a small town hardware store to the company it is today.

Today Hardware Hawaii is one of the largest lumber and building material suppliers in the state with three hardware stores on Oahu, one on Kauai and a huge 7-acre distribution center in Kapolei.

And through it all, Hardware Hawaii continues to be driven by Dana’s Customer First! philosophy. When you shop at Hardware Hawaii, you’ll know why our customers keep coming back again and again

	1954 Hardware Hawaii opens in the Kailua Shopping Center in June 1954.
	1984 Hardware Hawaii opens its second store in Kāne‘ohe on Kahuhipa Street.
	1988 Hardware Hawaii moves its flagship store in Kailua to its current location on Kihapai Street.
	1992 Hardware Hawaii is named Hawaii's Outstanding Business by the Better Business Bureau.
	1993 Hardware Hawaii is named O‘ahu Retailer of the Year by the Retail Merchants Association.
	1997 Hardware Hawaii opens a 3-acre Distribution Center at Kapa‘a Quarry in Kailua. Hardware Hawaii is named O‘ahu Retailer of the Year by the Retail Merchants Association.
	1998 Founder, R. Dana Lundquist, is named Hawaii's Retail Entrepreneur of the Year.
	1999 Hardware Hawaii is named State Retailer of the Year.
	2001 Hardware Hawaii opens its third store in Mapunapuna and switches its buying co-op from True Value to Ace Hardware.
	2002 Hardware Hawaii is one of the top five finalists for the "Best Business in Hawaii over ten million in sales" by Pacific Business News.
	2002 The change in buying co-ops allows Hardware Hawaii to donate $100,000 in True Value paint to O‘ahu Schools.
	2003 The Kapa‘a Quarry Distribution Center is expanded to seven acres.
	2004 Hardware Hawaii celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
	2006 Hardware Hawaii opens its 4th store (and first on a neighbor island) in Koloa, Kaua‘i.
	2008 Hardware Hawaii relocates its Distribution Center from Kapa‘a Quarry to a new 7-acre facility in Kapolei.
